The Secret

I watched this film today, it was interesting and I do believe in the content to an extent, however I found the "mind heals the body" aspect to be a bit of a long shot. The film uses the Law of Attraction (You get what you put your energy and focus on, whether wanted or unwanted. You are attracting the people, situations, jobs and such into your life) Basically our dominent thoughts will manifest.

It's an interesting concept, and I do believe in the power of the mind and our thoughts. My friends mother is a very spiritual woman. A few years ago she guided me in making a blueprint for my life. Absolutely anything that I wanted to have was put on the board......no wish was too grandiose. It is interesting now, years later to look at the board and see how many things have actually come into my life. A few things that were truly miracles and a few others that one could say I decided to do on my own and therefore were not necessarily the makings of a greater power. For example i had a picture of Africa on there as a place I wanted to visit and had the opportunity to go there last year. I suppose that could be seen as more of a goal that I was able to achieve rather than the power of my thoughts working in my favour. In any event I find this whole concept rather interesting and have decided to make a conscious decision to be more aware of my thoughts, and what i'm putting out there into the universe.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this topic. Do you think our dominent thoughts become our reality? If so, do we then have the power to change our lives using visualizations and positive thinking?

I'm not very spiritual, but I think the mind is very powerfull. I think you can very much control how sick you are and how you feel.

P.S. I was out of town over the weekend!

I think anything is possible. I believe that our dreams and hopes can become our reality.
I've an extremely religious person. So a lot of my dreams are asked for through prayer. To me answered dreams and answered prayers.

I mean to say dreams that become reality are answered prayers.

I think the author was on Oprah recently?
I totally agree with this concept, although don't know quite how to harness it yet! haha

My sister does this thing where she draws everything out that she wants. A few years ago, she was about to get kicked out of her house, had no job, etc. She drew a nice home, a new truck, and a nice husband. Within a year and a half, she had all those things, even the new truck! Pretty amazing.

BB, i also agree that we control how we feel. We're in charge of our thoughts, emotions and our responses to those.

Angel Jr, do you find a lot of your dreams come true?

JLee, it really is amazing. Have you tried anything like your sister? I'm not much of an artist so i had to use pictures from magazines haha!!

I think this is the same thing that my sister got into with some motivational/self-help tapes. The "big secret" was basically the power of positive thinking (not much of a secret if you ask me). I totally teased the crap out of her for it. Hey, that's what little brothers are for, right?

My mum and I somewhat disagree on this. She says it's spot on. I say some parts make sense and some are wishful thinking. I do think that a positive disposition is important. In fact I think that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you deal with it and what you do with it. However, there are things that are beyond the mind and the will to make it all right. Disease is one. Surely laughing is good medicine and being positive about getting better matters. But those things are not gonna cure you alone. And I dislike the religious undertones. But overall, I think it's better to be positive and that karma takes its course.

I havent seen the movie. When I was a kid someone told me that others think of you what you think of them. As most kids are, I was very impressionable. So from that point on I always used to think good about people, especially my teachers. I think it worked too. I was a kid so when I used to see a girl at school that I liked, I would just close my eyes and think about how cute she was, hoping that she would think the same about me.

I was cool when I was a kid. I had many principles I used to live by. Simple rules. As I grew older, I lost faith and I lost my principles.

Reality is not something we can create, but something thrust upon us.

Michael, yeah pretty much the same idea, and you're right, it's really not a secret at all.

Natalia, I agree as well that being positive is a great thing, but like you am doubtful it will cure cancer or anything like that.

Yrautca, so bring em back.

WIGSF...ummm *look over there* points and runs away.

I saw this movie a few years back called "What the Bleep Do We Know?" which was part film, part documentary that explored the concept that everything in the universe is interconnected. The point of the movie was to use scientific research to prove numerous points - including the fact that anger and fear and sadness has a very real, negative effect on all living organisms and that we can change our chemical well-being by changing our attitude to be more positive. Do I believe this? To a degree. I do believe that we can snap ourselves out of a funk by having more positive thoughts. And I do believe that positive, likeable, happy people achieve more in life (in general). But, there are some things in life that positively or negatively effect us emotionally and, while some positive thinking on our part can make these situations more bearable, it won't solve everything. Nor should it. Being in touch with your real emotions, even if painful, is important. Otherwise you are just living in denial and you could wake up one morning and realize that even your most positive attitude didn't make you as happy as you pretended to be.

Good post! I haven't really thought about it, but I remember my aunt saying that she thought you could will away pain. Like headaches and stuff. I have tried it, it kind of works.

Well, that's the last time I write something not intended to be comedic. What am I? A clown here to amuse you!

SS, sounds like an interesting film, perhaps i will check it out, I dig documentaries.

Rawbean, Thanks!

WIGSF....or should i say Joe Pesci I think that we can have a hand in creating our reality. We take the hand that was dealt to us and then we make choices.

I read an article about "The Secret" recently, and so I'm glad someone acually saw the thing.

I'm vaguely skeptical about the ability to heal the body with positive thinking, although I do think that you can harness some of your minds energy or spirtuality or whatever you want to call it and that is a good thing.

But, simply thinking you can do anything without backing it up with action will get you absolutely nowhere except shelling out $20 for a DVD. Ha.

Hey, saw your comment off if Elequent Gibberish's and decided to check out your page. I hope that's ok. Anyway, I loved this post. My husband's second husband died from cancer about two yrs ago and I do beleive that from what his family members told me, he was a very depressed person that at one point right before he got his cancer that he didn't want to live anymore and a few months later, he got thyroid cancer. I don't beleive that it was all from him wishing that he didn't want to live but I do beleive that it did have a part in it. The same thing with my mother in law. But I won't bore you with all the things I beleive in. But I do beleive that if someone want's something bad enough, that one can train their mind in making it happen, to an extent for good or for bad.

I think that our own perception of our lives has a dramatic impact on our lives. The thoughts that we hold onto and the way that we react to life all helps to mold our reality.

Miss Ash said...

2DP, yeah i keep reading about "The Secret", it's everywhere haha. I borrowed it from a friend.

DM welcome!!

Yrautca, please haha.

Scott, i agree with that as well.

I do think the mind is powerful, and the action to follow it, powerful. I don't think it is any great secret. I also think it dosen't always work. My Mom began positive thinking "classes" 20 years ago. She isn't any richer, or in a better job that she enjoys.
