I'm not sure if anyone else out there has a yahoo email account (it's so 1999) but I do, in fact I have several email accounts with different providers for various reasons. There's the one I use as more of a junk account if I have to give an email address for a lame contest or to sign up for something. I have another one that I've been using for many many years to keep in touch with friends. I also signed up a few years ago for a 3rd account with yet another provider just for the hell of it.

There's a point to all of this I swear....or a question at least. A few weeks ago I signed in to my yahoo account and received a message about so and so wanting to add me to their yahoo chat....huh??? Now the 1st two people to "add" me were friends of mine so that was fine (although I'm less than interested in using this chat option so I declined) however every day since then I get these bizarre people wanting me to add them to my chat list. I'm finding these messages rather annoying because A) I'm not interested in chatting with my friends on this let alone perfect strangers and B) the messages pop up every single time I log in.

I already have MSN and google chat to name a few, I don't need a 3rd place to talk to people. How the fuck did blandervonhorowitz get my email address anyway?? Is this happening to anyone else ( or do you have sophisticated accounts that wouldn't allow such filth)? Can I turn this chat option off?? It just POOF popped up one day and the messages began completely out of my control and they are driving me bonkers. It's creepy enough that people know when I'm checking certain accounts.....now this one too....grrrrr.

Try switching to the Classic/Old style Yahoo account. I still use that and I've never received any chat notifications. (You can chat with a Yahoo account???)

I find that internet chat thing is a little less personal than I'd like. I barely like the telephone but at least with a telephone, I can hear the person's voice in real time.

Only reason I use the google chat is to talk to you. And that's only 'cause you won't pick up the phone and give me a ring. By now, you'd think I'd take the hint, but alas, I'm too damned stubborn and stupid to notice.

Sounds like spam to me! I don't use Yahoo, but it sounds like WIGSFs suggestion might work...

Are you sure this isn't some sort of Spam? I get that all the time.

Ugh. Even google chat is of no interest.

Bizarre. But don't add them . . . I only have a hotmail account, which I'm told is so 2001 and that gmail is the way to go. Selah. I'm fine with what I've got.

Claire, me too!!

WIGSF, I do have the old style yahoo and the bloody chat thing popped up underneath my folders one day.

Jlee, the people might be trying to send me spam but I am already using the old version.

Wiwille, it's a bonafide chat thingy though I can't say what the intentions of the strangers are.

Rawbean, I do enjoy chatting on MSN but that's when I choose to do so, not when I sign into my email and everyone and their brother can see that I'm online.

2DP, I just keep blocking and deleting the strangers....though it could make for good blog fodder. I think I might be missing out on a good opportunity lol.

Bizarre. I use yahoo mail and I've never had any chat notification thingys. You must just be more popular than me.

And while we're on the topic, what's so great about gmail. what's it got that yahoo doesn't? —I've never really seem much of a difference really.

TT, I don't notice a huge difference between the new yahoo and gmail at all. I still use the old yahoo for the hell of it. I hate change.
