I have been a fan of Tim Burton films for as long as I can remember. As a child Beetlejuice held a special place in my heart along with Edward Scissorhands. As the years went on, so too did my list of beloved characters with Jack Skellington perched right at the top. An honorable mention to Big Fish a magical movie full of surprises and wonder; Burton never fails to amaze and entertain.

I had the pleasure of watching Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street recently which I would be hard pressed to dislike for the few simples facts that it was A) A Tim Burton film B) A musical (which I dig) and C) starred Johnny Depp. It was a dark/gothic horror with a great amount of bloodshed and gore however, the use of blood was more impressionistic than realistic and I loved loved loved every moment of the film. Even though Sweeney Todd was so dark with splashes of colour here and there it was visually captivating and rather humorous in parts. The singing was not operatic by any means but rather simple, you may even find yourself singing along as you exit the theatre.

I'm a huge fan of Burton, well except for Planet of the Apes and Sleepy Hallow, but Ed Wood is one of my favorite films ever. I'll check it out (yes I'm a straight man who goes to see musicals. Feign shock).
I've always found Burton to be really hit or miss. Beetlejuice, amazing. Batman amazinger. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure amazingest. But I really disliked Planet of the Apes and Mars Attacks. To each his or her own, right?
I am DYING (ha ha ha) to see this movie. I'm afraid it may have to wait a bit though. Always so busy this time of year.
Merry Christmas!
Wiwille you're a straight man trapped in a gay mans body for sure :P
WIGSF, I've never seen Mars Attacks so from the ones I have seen I do enjoy. He could have made some right crap that i've not seen.
SS, you made a funny :P Merry Christmas!
My daughter LOVES Tim Burton, which is cool for an 11 year old, but I hate musicals. I still may see it anyway since I'm a Burton/Depp fan.
I plan to see this at some point, although I'm not big on musicals. But I do like Burton for many of the films you mentioned.
As some others have mentioned, 'Apes' and 'Mars' are pretty awful, but nobody hits them out of the park every single time.
Tim Burton is the kind of director that makes people expect more from him that he usually delivers. When he LOVES a project he pours everything into it (Scissorhands, Batman, Ed Wood) and then other times he kinda mails it in for the money (Charlie and the paycheck factory much?)
Sweeney Todd looks to me like one he wanted to make. I'm really jazzed to see it.
JLee PP, hates musicals as well and disliked this one too...but Depp is always nice to look at :)
2DP, I haven't seen either of those movies and I don't think I will bother to as noone has said a good thing about them.
Hex, very true but I guess that's with anything really, when you're passionate about something it always seems to turn out better.
I think this is a movie that I'd see just to appreciate the genius of it. The people involved are all so brilliant it doesn't matter if it's my usual genre or not. I think I could just appreciate it for the quality work it is.
I do love a good musical, just not so much the blood/gore/creepy stuff...
I am only a mild fan of Burton. His best film: Batman.
I still dont get why women find Johnny Depp to be so hot.
Happy New Year Miss Ash. Go wild. Eat some beef skewers. Ha.
JF, it is a bit bloody, just cover your eyes :)
BB, I saw Batman a million years ago but i'm sure I liked it as a kidlet.
Yrautca, he has a certain je ne sais quoi about him!!
2DP not on your life haha!! Happy New Year!
