I have been toying with the idea of purchasing a laptop sometime in the near future. Now keep in mind I am a creature of habit I don't like to step out of my comfort zone and have always used a PC. I know Macs seem to be all the rage as of late but really are they that much better???
I asked a computer nerd friend of mine a while back and he said either would be fine.....thanks for the sound advice! Did I mention that I am the most indecisive person on the face of the earth?? Well I am and trying to decide on anything for me can be a rather punishing task.
I don't know much about Macs at all....I've used them at friends houses and they seem alright. I know that there are certain features that don't necessarily work well or at all with other computers. My friend has a Mac and his web cam isn't compatible with MSN or something like that....peanuts in the grand scheme of things but annoying nonetheless. I would prefer that everything works now just as it always has new computer or not.
So first thing to get out of the way, should I purchase a Mac or a PC?
If I go the PC route there are a million different brands to choose from. Now I've always been a Dell girl and have never had an issue with any of my computers. It also gives me some comfort to see their logos well everywhere, my bank uses them, my college used them......they seem to be good and reliable. That being said I'm not opposed to trying something new....perhaps cheaper!! My friend bought an Acer on sale and loves it, another has an HP Pavilion and loves it.
Advice....I need advice! So any computer savvy folk out there your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!

Not a huge laptop person, but it's really about what's important to you. PCs are cheaper & you can get more bang for your buck, but they tend to get more viruses. Apples look great, but you'll pay for it & you'll have to learn some different OSs. Sorry - that's about all I know, but I'm sure there are some big computer users out there with strong, strong opinions about this. Ha.
I hate to say it, but either one would be my answer! lol
I work on both and actually prefer PCs though...
Macs are good. But a different if you've never (or rarely) used them before. Mac vs PC is like apple vs orange. But, Mac's are pretty pricey. PCs can be had for a lot less, but they can also be had for a lot more. With PCs, you've got way more selection.
Psst. Underneath the hood, they're basically the same thing.
I like Macs, but they're wildly expensive considering you can't really do much with their hardware and whatnot. The platform is limiting, but there is a coolness factor that owners of them wear like a badge. So if you want to be one of the cool kids and allow advertisers to do the thinking for you, by all means...hehe...
Seriously Macs do make some good products. Some of my coworkers use them.
If you know what you're doing with a computer, save your money and get a PC. Macs are more for people who can't run an antivirus program properly. Plus you can use more third party hardware if needed, and have more of a range of software choices, including operating systems and changing the functionality. Granted you can dual boot between Apple's OS and Windows on a Mac, but on a PC you can install almost anything you want.
Yeah you know who I work for, so I'm a little biased. Email me if you have questions.
Hands down go Mac.
I use a PC at work and Mac at home and I LOVE my Mac. Its so slick. I got it out of the box and it was like "hi, lets play". On a PC you have to install a bunch of shit and drivers and all that crap. I have never had to do that with my Mac. Its super user friendly.
Also no problems with viruses or sketchy stuff being downloaded to your computer.
I truly believe that PC's are totaly junk compared to macs.
Yea they are more expensive but I got a refurbished Mac off the apple website. It's a Macbook Pro and I paid 800 less than a new Macbook Pro (and it was really brand new).
Other notes about Apple - great service! I dropped my ipod once and it was still under warranty and they replaced it at the Mac store no questions asked.
I WILL never go back to PC.
Now the only downsides are that I don't have MS Office on my Mac and apparently its expensive. And yea you can't use webcam on Messenger for Mac (its like Microsoft does that to try and make macs look bad) - but apparently you can do it through gmail chat so there you go.
There are lots of other cool programs that you can use like iphoto, photobooth, mail etc. that come with the computer.
Let me know if you have more questions!
At least go to the mac store and check em out before you decide.
I was a graphic designer and I've only ever worked on a Mac. I love them.

Check out refurbished!
I *want* to get a Mac for my computer purchase in a year or so. Basically, because they are pretty and everyone says good stuff about them.
Currently, I've always had PCs. My first laptop was a Dell and it was toast after two years. The motherboard died, and it was too costly to fix so I got a new computer instead.
I currently have a Toshiba notebook and it's been very reliable. It's going on three years with no problems.
i am in the same boat and have been looking to buy a new laptop. i am leaning toward an Apple but boy are those expensive.
pretty disappointed in my PC.
Go with PC, you're not a designer so you don't need those specialized Mac programs, and Macs are waaaay more expensive.
Christian's bit about white people and Apple products is hilarious, you should read it:

Anyway, I have a Toshiba laptop. The reason I chose Toshiba is that my previous laptop was Toshiba and the thing was darn near indestructible and worked great for years and years.
