Almost Famous

I remember the 1st time i saw this movie I felt a strange connection to Kate Hudson's character Penny Lane. I'm certainly not a groupie or Band Aid as she referred to herself (unless you count my small obsession with Jeff Martin) however I saw myself in her.

In the beginning Penny Lane appeared to be a fun loving happy go lucky kind of gal. However as the movie progresses there is such a sadness behind her, she seems lost and vulnerable. The hurt and pain in her eyes when she asks "Why doesn't he love me" always gets to me. It's a way i'm sure we've all felt at one time or another.

Penny Lane is the one movie character that i closely identify with for some strange reason. What movie character do you see yourself in?

View from the Inside

Last weekend was a lot of fun. We had a surprise going away party for a friend that started at 4pm and ended at 2am at a bar. Here is a peak at our evening.

These are the buckets of beer that seemed to never go dry. There were so many of us, that we all took turns buying them and voila.....always a drink to be had.

G walked in with this shirt....Hilarious!!!

The highlight of the evening was this drunken man at the bar. At this point we had been drinking for about 7 hours......when the hell did this guy start LOL.

Enjoy:

George & Steve

I thought this was hilarious. Apparently Bush referred to Stephen Harper as "Steve" and this picture soon followed in the newspaper.

I heard about this song/video on the morning show that i listen to. Obviously they were making fun of the Hoff. They played and audio clip of it and i thought it was awful. So of course i had to watch the video. Check out this link. It is David Hasselhoff singing a song called Jump in My Car....OH MY!!!!!! ENJOY :)

Star Trek Convention

So after watching the movie Trekkies (you'll have to click on show original post as i have no idea how to just show the post, though note that Gabriel sent me a comment!!)years ago, Melissa and I have always wanted to attend a Star Trek Convention. Our wish came true this past weekend. Jennifer tipped us off that there would be a convention, so while everyone else in the world was watching the World Cup or the Indy, Melissa and I were shmoozing with Trekkies. Unfortunately we could only attend on the Sunday so we missed most of the fun stuff such as Klingon Karaoke and the big fashion show/dance however we had a good time anyway.

We even made our own shirts to wear. Neither of us has really watched an episode of Star Trek and Melissa's co-worker told her that Spock was a Vulcan and Vulcans only have sex once every seven years. She wanted to put something witty under her pic of Spock such as "are my seven years up yet" however we weren't 100% sure if this was true and she didn't want to feel silly if it was not. When we arrived at the convention I was rather embarassed of my "do you want to play with my phasers" shirt however one older woman at a booth thought it was hilarious so i felt better.

It was fun but rather uneventfull as we arrived rather late and it was winding down by the time we got there. We checked out the various booths of merchandise, Melissa bought a Spock mug and i bought this gorgeous bracelet that has nothing to do with Star Trek or any Sci-Fi stuff. She makes a lot of Victorian beaded chokers and chandelier earings. Perhaps next year i'll find some Trekkie swag.

Why i never want to own a house......

So i've always thought of myself as more of a condo/loft type of gal. I've never cut the lawn in my life, i despise dirt so you will never catch me gardening or raking leaves or painting, the list is endless. The past two weeks i have spent house sitting for a friend while her and her hubby have been away on their honeymoon. Let me tell you these past 2 weeks of housesitting have confirmed what i always thought to be true.

The work that goes into her backyard on a daily basis is ridiculous. Her neighbours have these enormous trees that completely hang into and over her yard. Not only did i spend many an hour sweeping up the leaves that had fallen, but they also have a gigantor cherry tree and as you can imagine, the cherries were everywhere. Some where smushed into the deck staining and discolouring it, many were rotting and had flies all over them ewe!!!! So everyday, at least twice a day i was out there sweeping up dirty, rotting cherries full of flies because the neighbours want to enjoy a forest in their backyard.

I had a bit of trouble trying to throw out the bag that i put the rotting cherries into. She told me to just use it for the week to throw out the various remnants that i had swept up and to eventually toss the bag out on garbage day. Well you can only imagine after a few hot hot days of 100 degrees or so the state that the bag was in. Let's just say there were too many fruit flies to count and it was starting to ferment and liquify at the bottom. I actually called my dad to come and throw the bag out for me, but then did it myself *stepping out of the box people.* I did almost vomit though.

Not only did the cherries and leaves fall onto the deck, but they also fell into the pond, which also needed to be cleaned on a daily basis. As well there was clearly a problem with said pond. It had to be filled up every few days with water as the levels would go down. This involved retrieving the hose from the side of the house where the neighbours yappy dog was and dragging the hose across the yard, filling the pond and putting everything back where it belonged every other day. I also had to scoop various things from the pond along with the cherries and leaves including a huge, fat, dead, bloated white earthworm ughhhh. It was revolting.

They also have a pool that needed to be maintained. That was my first time ever vacuuming one and i was surprised that it took as long as it did. Of course i was also skimming the water daily for the leaves and bugs and other various floaters in the water. We had a few windy days which knocked a lot of leaves into the pool and thus the filter basket was constantly needing to be cleared.

So, these past few weeks have reminded me of just why i will choose condo life over owning a home in a heartbeat. I'm not into rotting cherries covered in dirty flies and big bloated dead earthworms.

Oh and a note, because i'm a whiner....i forgot to mention in my last post that in my drunken stupor trying to get into the cab, i somehow jammed my finger and it swelled up to double it's size. Luckily PP came over with a splint for my finger, but it was bloody hard doing all that work with a mangled finger. It's still swollen almost a week later ... yikes!!

Canada Day Fun!!

For the past 6 years or so every Canada Day i've spent with the same group of people. It started when my friend moved to Florida and every year he would come home for Canada Day and we'd have a BBQ and go drinking. He has since moved home but the tradition continues. This year however i went to a different BBQ and then met up with everyone for some good times. Good times that i am now paying for today.

We went to this small patio bar and you could barely move it was sooooo busy. I ended up having 3 Corona's before we even got to the bar and continued drinking those for most of the night. I then switched to Screwdrivers and Pina Colada's oh my!! It was a messy messy evening. Shamefully i made out with one of my friends co-workers and it was awful, i'm quite sure his tongue touched my stomach that's how far he was shoving it into my mouth. Needless to say when i left the bar i just sort of waved bye and ran out of there.

So i wake up today and i want to die. My head is pounding and i don't get out of bed until 3pm. Meanwhile my phone has been ringing as a bunch of people are going to see a concert on the patio and i told them i would probably be going. I talk to my friend i was out with last night and he tells me to get my butt down there and i laugh at him. He on the other hand feels great and he's like "i'm drinking a beer right now." I tell him i have all the blinds in the house shut because the light hurts my eyes and i can barely move. It sucks too because it's gorgeous outside, sunny and hot a perfect day. Unfortunately i'm going to be spending the remainder of it in bed. Happy Canada Day!!
