Woo Hoo!!! Big shout out to Martin Scorsese. I've been waiting years for this moment (much like i'm sure he has). I'm a bit of an Oscar nerd, i've been faithfully watching the show for years and years and years.
Highlights for me this year included:
The two winners who put their Oscar on the floor in order to read their acceptance speech. Who does that???? It's the highest honour an actor is given and bam, they place it on the dirty floor.
There was Milena Canonero's speech in which she pats the Oscar, her ring dings off of it and she says "In one way i wanted this doll and in another i was frightened." This doll????
Davis Gussenheim won for An Inconvenient Truth and would not let go of Al Gore's arm. He also kept staring at Al in a creepy way and thanking him. Bizzare....
And lastly, Ennio Morricone was awarded an honorary Oscar.....he looked less than thrilled, almost bored when they were showing film clips, though when Clint Eastwood tried to hand him his Oscar he kept bowing down as if he was soooo thankful. His speech was in Italian, and it was priceless to see the looks on the actors faces as he was speaking......lots of furrowed brows and WTF is he saying looks. Hilarious.
There were a few films i had not heard of that i am now interested in seeing. Mainly Documentaries:
Recycled Life
The dramatic and touching story of thousands of adults, children, and generations of families who have been living and working in the largest and most toxic landfill in Central America, the Guatemala City Garbage Dump, over the last sixty years.
The Blood of Yingzhou District
A year in the life of children in the Province of Anhui in China, who have lost their parents to AIDS. Traditional obligations to family and village collide with terror of the disease.

On a completely unrelated note, i found this cartoon the other day, it made me giggle, but sadly it is how i have been feeling as of late. A lot of thinking, where am i going, what am i doing, what have I done ........

Yay for Mr. Scorsese. The Departed was a great movie. I liked it a lot.
Now, I'm regretting not watching the Oscars. I didn't know there was going to be a presentation to Ennio Morricone. He's fantastic!
OMG I was so excited when Marty one, I almost cried for him, although I was a little disappointed that they didn't give Best Actor to Peter O'Toole...8 nominations no wins and the man looked like he was about to die, it would have been nice if they'd thrown him a bone this time but oh well. All in all it was a really good show this year.
oscars were quite entertaining
the shadow dance puppet thing was cooool!
ellen was a good host!
i want the snow to go away... :)
Award shows are sooo friggin boring to me. I hate waiting for them to announce the winners--why don't they just tell us already. It's all too frustraing to watch. Or maybe I'm just a little impatient.
WIGSF, i agree the Departed was a great movie!!
Dawn, Yeah, Peter O'Toole was looking a little rough. The should just give him an honorary Oscar.
FU, the shadow puppet thing was very cool indeed. I agree about the snow, Enough Already!!!
Angel Jr, they of course always leave the more interesting categories till the end. At least this year it only ran about 4 hours.
I noticed all those things too!! Very weird. I was worried it was becoming the "Al Gore Show"
Oh, the awards were exciting this year. This was Hubby's first year as a member of "The Academy." It was really cool because every time someone said "I'd like to thank The Acadmey" in their award speech they were thanking Hubby (assuming it was something he voted for - and, surprisingly, nearly everything he voted for won. It was very consistent like that). I guess working in the film business finally got him one pretty cool perk.
I also thought that Ellen was a pretty entertaining host.
A little self-inspection is good for the soul, but take heart, Marty finally won a deserved Oscar so maybe we get what we deserve - eventually.
Jlee, haha so true.
SS, that's so exciting!!! I want to be a member of the Academy.
2DP, now you've gone and done it. I'm sitting at work with a tear in my eye....so true. Things will get better, i'm just feeling rather ahhhhhh at the moment.
Ennio Morricone was on the Oscars? I would have totally wanted to see that. I loved his work in The Man With No Name Trilogy.
I have yet to see The Departed. It's playing at the dollar theatre. Maybe I should go down and see what the hoopla is about. I can't get into the Oscars. It's all political. And it's just a bunch of millionaires patting each other on the back for jobs they are overpaid for. Yeah I know...I am ruining the fun. But that's just how I feel about it.

BP, you missed him. I'm sure you could YouTube it or something.
Natalia, I really did enjoy the Departed, it's worth seeing. As for the Oscars they are my guilty pleasure.
