Bah Humbug!! I am a bit of a Scrooge this time of year. I loathe Christmas music & snow but will admit I enjoy the chocolate advent calendar my dear mother buys me every year (yes I'm almost 30)! I avoid the mall at all costs during the December rush and am thankful that I only have two gifts to purchase....one for my mom and one for my dad. Christmas dinner, meh I could do without; however I do enjoy the times spent with friends and the paid week and a half I have off from work.
One thing I do not understand are the massive amounts of lights a la Clark Griswold that people proudly display. They are ummm interesting to look at I suppose but in more of an "oh my" point and laugh type of a way. As most of you know PP and I trek through neighbourhoods looking for such places and have found some treasures in the past. I am certain that this year will prove just as fruitful. I really can't imagine the type of person who A) wants to pay such an atrocious hydro bill and B) has enough time to string lights up from the roof to the lawn and back up again.
It doesn't even have to be a Clark Griswold display to make me cringe. The lights look misplaced in the photo above...yucky!!

(this one is OK but it's still a little busy and the white lights don't match but this is more my style)
I am more of a simple girl, a few nice white lights tastefully placed and I am delighted. I think it's garish when people have white lights, coloured lights, blinking lights oh heck let's add a big blow up Santa and a string of different coloured lights for the hell of it........sooooo tacky!! It also drives me nuts when people have the string of lights that go up to an outside tree lit, it looks so bizzare. That being said haha what kind of lights do you have on display if any???

I had a blow-up Santa standing behind a nice little light-up train, but the last storm to blow through ripped it out of the ground and I'm not sure I can get the darn thing braced again. Besides, it's covered in snow now anyway.

You are crazy. There's nothing about this season not to love. If nothing else what about charity and goodwill towards your fellow man?
I'll agree that the light situation can get out of hand. The 2 houses across the street from my old place cover their lawns in faux snow and painted cut-outs of holiday characters. They string up tons of "dancing" lights and blast holiday music out their front windows - the lights "dance" in time to the music. It's a crazy display but people love it. So, I say anything that gets people in a festive spirit is good.
I didn't bother to put up the lights this winter. Its been pretty hectic around the homestead. I do however plan on keeping up my Christmas tradition of stripping down to just boots and a hat, wrap my body in battery powered Christmas lights and run through the streets of a random neighbourhood (not my own). I think this year I'll shock Burlington or Oakville.

Only white lights on my tree. I hate the colored lights. But I do love some good decorating. It's our ability to accessorize and decorate that separates us from the animals remember! :)
Oh, and I'm with ya on the chocolate calendar. Gotta get me one of those!
No lights up yet, though I do need to get the tree up very soon.
Man, I need to take some video of my gay neighbors and their Christmas lights. It is a jaw dropping experience! lol
I'm a total Christmas decorator!! LOL. Though not as bad as the first two pictures. But I love them anyway.
ITH, haha a blow up Santa eh, how kinky :P
SS, hmm I think it's become too commercial and seems to be more about the gifts nowadays than charity and goodwill.
WIGSF, for the love of God don't come down my way LOL.
JF, get one soon, the month is almost over!
Scott, do you put lights in your window?
Jlee, please do!!
Lindsey bleh!! haha.
I would not have taken you for such a non-fan of Xmas Miss Ash. This is very dismaying. Ha.
But I love "Christmas Vacation" (though not as much as the original).
As for lights, I toned it down this year and have only white lights in my loft with garland, some poinsettas (sp?) and assorted snowmen.
I'm not looking forward to going up on a ladder and putting up christmas lights, I think I'll stay in my condo for a while!
Surely you meant, happy holidays!
And to you too!
